Postal Order again

Postal Order Crystal Palace June 16 (2)

Wednesday 1st June 2016

It seems to be a bit of a habit when in London - go to Wetherspoon's Postal Order in Crystal Palace for breakfast. This day was no different. I had the usual traditional breakfast.

Yak and Yeti

Yak and Yeti June 16 (1)

Tuesday 31st May 2016

I am back in London for a few days so we headed out to eat in the Crystal Palace Triangle. We ended up at the Yak and Yeti again. Satisfactory food though not cheap.

Valley Farm, Team Valley

Valley Farm Team Valley May 16 (4)

Saturday 21st May 2016

A friend recently retired as a councillor in Gateshead after 25 years in the post. So his retirement party was held in the Valley Farm in the Team Valley. It was the first time I had been there. Competitively priced and the food was reasonable. Worth a visit.

Things to see on a walk from Gateshead to Newcastle

Thursday 19th May 2016

I had to meet the BBC for an interview in Baltic Square and then walk up to Newcastle. So here are 3 of the sites I snapped on the way.

Gateshead Millennium Bridge May 16

Gateshead Millennium Bridge - the footbridge from the Gateshead to Newcastle Quays. It may be the Millennium Bridge but its official opening was in 2002 (I was there for it!)

Newcastle town wall Corner Tower May 16 (1)

Newcastle town wall Corner Tower May 16 (3)

The Corner Tower of the medieval Newcastle Town Walls. Neighbouring Pandon Dene was filled in over 100 years ago. The Corner Tower was never meant to be a corner until medieval Newcastle decided to change the course of the wall to include Pandon village.

Newcastle Holy Jesus Hospital May 16

Holy Jesus Hospital is now surrounded by roads and multi-storey car parks. The site started off as an Augustinian friary in 1291. The current building contains elements from a number of different historical periods.

South Shields Museum

South Shields Museum Apr 16 (1)

Thursday 28th April 2016

I am a member of Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums and we had our most recent meeting at South Shields Museum. This is an establishment I have not visited much before but I used the opportunity to have an admittedly short look around.  The focus is on the history of the town but watch out for the lion.

Sorella Sorella again

Sorella Sorella Apr 16 (1)

Saturday 16th April 2016

We had a friend staying so we decided to eat out in the evening. We opted for Sorella Sorella in Streetgate, less than 15 minutes walking distance from our house. Always good food and this evening was no exception. This is a restaurant that is always busy. Always book in advance.

Lintzford Nursery Cafe

Lintzford Nursery Apr 16

Friday 15th April 2015

Lintzford Nursery and Garden Centre is near Rowlands Gill on the Gateshead/Co Durham border. I had to pop in there recently to buy some shredded bark (I used it in my duck run). I decided to call into the cafe there for lunch. Food was borderline between disappointing and okay. The baked potatoes were mush and the filling was too salty. While I will probably continue to buy gardening products there, I probably won't be making use of the cafe.
