Our 4th full day in Washington DC and our key task was to sort out an emergency passport. It meant a visit to the British Embassy on Massachusetts Avenue, a half hour walk from our hotel. The appointment had been booked in advance. Forms were filled in, photos exchanged and proof of ID provided. My missing passport was cancelled and I was given an emergency, single journey passport to get me back to the UK. Job sorted. We walked back in the blazing sun and got back to Dupont Circle, passing lots of other embassies and a statue of Winston Churchill on the way.
