My new passport arrived, with a day to spare. So I was able to jump on a Virgin East Coast train to London on Friday 21st August. Once at London Kings Cross Station it was a simple case of crossing the road to St Pancras International Station to catch the Eurostar service to Paris.
Beware of the prices at the cafes, wine bars and restaurants. They are sky high. I limited myself to a coffee at Des Vins.
